Alderman Stamper and Alderwoman Coggs introduce communication files to tackle community concerns
Files will address missing children in Milwaukee, incident at 40th and Lloyd
Alderman Russell W. Stamper, II and Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs have introduced two communication files that aim to seek clarity regarding questions within the community stemming from two teenagers who went missing the weekend of June 20th. Both teenagers have since returned home.
The files will be heard at the next regularly scheduled meeting of the Public Safety and Health Committee on Thursday, July 25 at 9 a.m. The first communication file will entail a conversation around missing children in Milwaukee including the prevalence of the issue and police processes. The second file will look to add clarity regarding the incident that occurred at 40th and Lloyd on Tuesday, June 23rd. It is expected that representatives from the Milwaukee Police Department will be present for the discussion of both items.
“While violence and vandalism are never the answer, it is clear the events that occurred at 40th and Lloyd came as a response to the community’s concern for missing children. The hope is these communication files can allow for a public discussion around missing children in our city, as well as add clarity to the unrest that occurred at 40th and Lloyd,” said Alderwoman Coggs.
Alderman Stamper shares the sentiment. “I condemn the property damage that occurred, but at the heart of the issue is that the residents and community activists in that area did not seem satisfied with the police department’s response to their concerns,” said Alderman Stamper. “These communication files can help address these concerns and provide more transparency in the process.”
