Big Clean MKE to beautify neighborhoods citywide this Saturday

Alderman Russell W. Stamper, II is inviting residents throughout Milwaukee to join the Big Clean MKE this Saturday, October 29.  The Big Clean MKE is a citywide clean-up in memory of the Special Enforcement Inspector Greg “Ziggy” Zyszkiewicz, who lost his life during an attempted carjacking robbery while working for the people of Milwaukee in 2017. The Big Clean MKE returns after a multi-year absence due to COVID-19, and is a great way for neighbors, block clubs and neighborhood groups, churches, business districts and workplaces to get together to beautify Milwaukee and give back to the community.

“The Big Clean MKE was started to accomplish a simple goal, to make Milwaukee the cleanest city in the country. After a brief hiatus, the Big Clean is back and I’m asking residents to join us this Saturday to help make our city a cleaner place for everyone to enjoy,” Alderman Stamper said.

Neighborhood clean-ups will begin at 11:30 a.m. and run until 3 p.m. at various sites across the city. Rally points for clean-ups include: Butterfly Park, 37^th and Meinecke; Running Rebels, 1300 W. Fond du Lac Ave.; Safe and Sound, 24^th and Vine; Near West Side Partners, 29^th and Clybourn; Riverworks Development Corporation, SE corner of Booth and Locust; Westcare, 4^th and Wright; Southside Organizing Center, clean-ups in Muskego Way, Clarke Square, Lincoln Village, Historic Mitchell Street, Walker Square Park and Baran Park – please contact Travis Hope at (414) 551-1125 for volunteer information.

All clean-up tools and supplies will be provided to volunteers, and volunteers will receive a free Big Clean MKE t-shirt. Those participating in clean-ups are also invited to attend a volunteer appreciation luncheon taking place at 3 p.m. at the Wisconsin Black Historical Society Museum, 2620 W.
