Streetcar Called “Disaster”
Statement of Alderman Mark A. Borkowski
The community was informed of now a second lawsuit dealing with the tracks of the streetcar. And the “darn” thing is not even in operation yet! Clearly an inauspicious start!!
Many constituents and residents have mentioned to me about the downtown traffic and problem weather. Are we ready Milwaukee? With the terrible track record of lawsuits dealing with the police department and knowing of issues dealing with lead in water, another round of lawsuits to affect this city is the last thing this cash-strapped community can afford.
I know that the streetcar has a name but hopefully it will not be called “The Disaster!”

Alderman Borkowski,
Your “Streetcar Named Disaster” piece is too clever by half. The faint allusion to the T. Williams “Streetcar Named Desire” is anemic at best in that you use it to express irrational hatred for Milwaukee’s streetcar. Williams was a lover, not a hater.
I spilled a motorcycle some years ago by failing to take a proper angle over streetcar tracks in another city. My motorcycle was ruined and I suffered some injuries, but I did not blame the trolley tracks. I blamed myself for failing to angle over those tracks. People who love to hate streetcars and streetcar tracks have issues unrelated to streetcars.
Thank you Thomas for your comment. Just because an infrastructure was involved in the accident does not make it the causal factor. I myself have been injured riding my bike while riding too close to where the curb met the asphalt. By Borkowski’s logic, I should have been able to sue the city for having curbs. What utter nonsense! Light-rail systems have been facilitated a boom in development in metropolitan areas that have built them. The Hop has already generated development here in Milwaukee.
