4th of July fireworks in Milwaukee are out of control

Statement of Alderman Mark A. Borkowski July 5, 2022

Yesterday, with severe storms in the forecast for the 4th of July, all firework celebrations were cancelled or postponed for the evening. Well, based on what I and other residents experienced last night you sure could have fooled me!

Monday was the fourth consecutive night where individuals decided they were going to be the ones celebrating this holiday, not with your basic sparklers or bottle rockets, but rather with commercial-grade fireworks that were being set off in the middle of residential areas. Amazingly, there were no fires or other injuries reported as a result of these neighborhood displays, and the city was able to avert any major disasters.

Despite our good fortune last night, we still have a problem. Milwaukee has an ordinance in place against the sale and use of these types of fireworks by individuals, yet people can travel outside the city, purchase what they please, and then come right back to our city and use them to disturb and potentially endanger others. Because fireworks do not understand city limits, the Legislature must act to ban the sale of these commercial, high-grade explosives. If we refuse to act, it will only be a matter of time before these fireworks cause irreparable damage.

  1. NieWiederKrieg says:

Two brothers burned down the Patrick Cudahy plant with a military flare on the 4th of July, 2009 and caused $50 million dollars in damage… The fire lasted 3 days and involved over 500 firefighters… It was the largest structural fire in the history of Wisconsin… The brothers received a slap on the wrist as punishment.

Now we have people taking the 4th of July lunacy to a whole new level with yesterday’s mass shooting at the Independence Day parade in Highland Park, Illinois.

Meanwhile, Joe Biden continues his quest to start global nuclear war against Russia, China, and Iran.

    God help us.
