Schwantes for Judge campaign announces first 100 endorsements from community leaders

MILWAUKEE — Public Defender Travis Schwantes, who announced his candidacy for judge in Milwaukee County Circuit Court, Branch 30, last week, today announced more than 100 elected officials, attorneys, and community members have already endorsed his campaign.

“Travis has been working in the judicial system for more than two decades, bringing wisdom, compassion, and relentless energy to the job, and ensuring everyone who walks into our courtrooms is treated fairly and with dignity,” said Rep. Evan Goyke. “I am confident his experience in, and commitment to, bettering our judicial system every day will bring a necessary fresh perspective to the bench and make him a fair, impartial, and effective judge.”

Schwantes announced his campaign for Circuit Court Judge last week in a challenge to sitting Judge Jeffrey Conen. Conen subsequently announced he was leaving the bench and has endorsed another attorney for the position.

“At this time of community outcry for change and greater fairness and dignity in our justice system, I’m honored to have the support of so many people committed to those principles,” said Schwantes. “We need a new direction in Branch 30, because we can’t keep doing things the same way and expect a different result.

“In every case, I will uphold the law, and treat every person who comes before me with dignity and respect,” said Schwantes. “I will also ensure we start breaking the cycle and addressing mass incarceration, which will make our community safer and stronger.”
