Marisabel for Milwaukee Campaign: I am a pro-choice LGBT leader, and I am proud of my advocacy for immigrants and women
Milwaukee, WI — With a growing list of endorsements, Rep. Marisabel Cabrera’s campaign for Milwaukee County Circuit Court Branch 43 has been working to visit all 19 area municipalities to speak one-on-one with voters. Today the campaign released the following statement:
“I am a pro-choice LGBT leader, and I am proud of my advocacy for immigrants and women. I am proud of my past endorsements from organized labor, the Human Rights Campaign, Planned Parenthood, and environmentalists, and the values those groups fight for. Likewise, I am proud of being an Emerge Wisconsin graduate, a superb organization focused on training Democratic women for election to every level of office in our great state. And, I look forward to reaching out to past allies now to humbly ask for their support in this upcoming Spring election. I will not, however, let any of my campaign supporters influence my judicial decisions, or interfere in any way with my evaluations of the law. Candidates and sitting judges should not be maligned, or discounted and attacked, for enlisting necessary support in Wisconsin elections.
“When I was serving on Milwaukee’s Fire and Police Commission, it didn’t matter if we were Independents, Republicans, or Democrats. Our nonpartisan role was to balance the needs of our hardworking first responders with the need for democratic, community oversight. While serving I was elected Chair of the Commission, and I built bridges for pragmatic changes to improve Milwaukee. We were trusted to serve without bias, and not let our personal views obstruct our duties. This is the same neutral and unbiased approach I will take if elected to the bench.
“I am deeply thankful to add new endorsements as my campaign continues efforts to improve transparency, community connection, justice, and fairness in Milwaukee County courts, and I encourage folks to join me at upcoming events to learn more about me.”
