Marisabel Cabrera Brings Experience and Dedication to Circuit Court Campaign
MILWAUKEE, WI – Honored by a lengthy list of endorsements, Attorney Marisabel Cabrera today announced her candidacy for Branch 43, Milwaukee County Circuit Court. Cabrera’s passion for community building started at UW-Madison and continued in law school, where she honed her legal expertise. Her aspiration to contribute to the judiciary led her to clerk for a family law judge, where she played a pivotal role helping draft legal opinions. Subsequently, she embarked on a career in criminal defense. Driven by a commitment to justice, she transitioned to immigration law after witnessing the complex challenges her clients faced in their pursuit of citizenship due to minor legal issues. In this capacity, she became a key resource for Milwaukee’s Latino community, as well as the rainbow of immigrant communities that enrich Milwaukee County. An Emerge Wisconsin alumnae first elected in 2018, Cabrera serves in Wisconsin’s 9th State Assembly District.
“When judges win appointments or elections, our sole duty is to uphold the law, which means making unpopular decisions and resisting political trends. Marisabel Cabrera is an outstanding choice for judge, and will uphold the rule of law’s strict standard and ensure impartiality prevails,” said Judge Pedro Colón. “Marisabel and I lived the shared experience of immigrant kids – children and adults mispronouncing our names or warping them, unwilling to learn our heritage. In such moments, we learned the virtues of politeness and patience, finding solace with loved ones who pronounce our names correctly at home, in church, and on the block. Cabrera’s background as a criminal defense attorney and an expert in immigration law has instilled within her a profound sense of empathy for her clients, and the diverse communities that make Milwaukee County great. Often historians and patriots reflect on the American project or the American experiment: the first in her family to graduate college, Marisabel is a success story of our shared mission. Diversity and fair representation strengthen the bench and elevate Wisconsin justice, and Marisabel Cabrera stands as a highly vetted and exceptional leader who can provide that much-needed representation.”
