MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis., (Jan. 23, 2018) Kohl’s (NYSE: KSS) today announced 28 local non-profits as recipients of a combined $500,000 in grants through Kohl’s new Hometown Giving Program. The organizations will use the funding for programs within Milwaukee County focused on areas such as poverty, safety and education.

“Kohl’s was born and raised in the Milwaukee area, and we have a deep and long-standing commitment to supporting organizations that strengthen our community and make Milwaukee a great place to live and work,” said Jen Johnson, Kohl’s vice president of communications. “This year, we’ve added a new way to support local organizations that are making a positive impact for families throughout our region. We’ve been so impressed by the ingenuity and inventiveness of the proposals we’ve received. These esteemed non-profits are proof that big impact can be made by small groups of dedicated people focused on improving the world around them.”

Launched in September 2017 with an initial call for grant submissions, the Kohl’s Hometown Giving Program allows Kohl’s to continue addressing vital community needs in addition to Kohl’s existing Milwaukee-area efforts. Local non-profits applied online for a grant ranging from $5,000 to $50,000, with $500,000 in grants offered.

Grant recipients of the 2017 Kohl’s Hometown Giving Program include:

The grants will be used for everything from the expansion of youth development programs with Girls on the Run to supporting an entire academic school year of literacy intervention efforts at a high-need Milwaukee school with City Year Milwaukee.

Other supported programs include the development of urban produce gardens at Walnut Way Conservation Corp., in-school performances and performing arts workshops by Skylight Music Theatre, and the support of building 25 homes and rehabilitation of eight others for low-income homebuyers through Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity.

Kohl’s has long been committed to the greater Milwaukee area through ongoing partnerships with best-in-class organizations making positive lasting impacts in the community, in addition to our Associate volunteer efforts. Since 2000, Kohl’s and Kohl’s Cares have donated more than $90 million to support charitable initiatives in the metro-Milwaukee area.

Kohl’s Hometown Giving Program grants are made possible through Kohl’s philanthropic program, Kohl’s Cares®, which sells children’s books and toys and donates 100 percent of the net profit to charitable initiatives nationwide.
