Downtown employees to enjoy week of summertime perks
Milwaukee Downtown to host Downtown Employee Appreciation Week July 27 – July 31
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (July 8, 2015) – Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21 will collaborate with downtown businesses and community leaders to reward the downtown workforce during the 10th Annual Downtown Employee Appreciation Week, July 27 – July 31. The fun-filled workweek will feature special events, office challenge games, lunchtime giveaways and exclusive discounts for downtown’s 81,000 employees.
The event will kick off with an opening ceremony at 11:45 a.m. on Monday, July 27 in Red Arrow Park. Festivities will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony with invited guests Mayor Tom Barrett, County Executive Chris Abele and Milwaukee County Parks Director John Dargle; live music; and the launch of free lunch for 1,000 employees daily. Lunch giveaways will begin at 12 p.m. at the daily downtown location and include 1,000 treats ranging from mini subs and sliders to mini pitas and mini bowls of mac ‘n cheese.
In addition to complimentary eats, afternoon activities will include Office Challenge Games presented by Associated Bank, photo ops with the Milwaukee Brewers’ Racing Sausages and a Bucks Basketball Shootout. Activities will be held from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Red Arrow Park (Monday, July 27), Pere Marquette Park (Tuesday, July 28), Schlitz Park (Wednesday, July 29), Zeidler Union Square (Thursday, July 30) and Cathedral Square Park (Friday, July 31).
New this year, Playworks will join afternoon activities on Wednesday, July 29 at Schlitz Park, Thursday, July 30 at Zeidler Union Square and Friday, July 31 at Cathedral Square Park with recess games for big kids, and a Health, Beauty & Wellness Expo will be held on Thursday, July 30 at Zeidler Union Square. The World’s Largest Coffee Break will return to Catalano Square at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, offering employees a morning pick-me-up.
After-hours events including the I Work Downtown Beach Volleyball Tournament, Monday, July 27 and Tuesday, July 28 at Bradford Beach, and Downtown’s Grandest Happy Hour, Thursday, July 30 at The Shops of Grand Avenue, will also return to the week’s lineup. New evening events will include an I Work Downtown Kickball Tournament on Wednesday, July 29 at MSOE’s Athletic Field, a 5K Fun Run with Milwaukee Running Festival on Thursday, July 30 at Pere Marquette Park and an I Work Downtown Happy Hour Boat Cruise on Friday, July 31 aboard the Milwaukee River Cruise Line.
In addition, downtown businesses will shower employees with a week of discounts on products or services. Employees will be encouraged to sport a paper clip to identify himself or herself as a downtown worker.

Downtown Employee Appreciation Week will conclude with a closing ceremony on Friday, July 31 from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Cathedral Square Park. Completed Downtown Employee Appreciation Week passports will be pulled for a prize drawing that recognizes employees who participated in three or more events. Passports must be turned in by 12:30 p.m. on Friday, July 31 to a Public Service Ambassador to be eligible for the drawing.
