Bay View bike and skate shop to upgrade its space
The Bigfoot Bike and Skate store in Bay View has signed a lease for a new storefront.
The Bigfoot Bike and Skate store in Bay View has signed a lease for a new storefront that offers more than three times the floor space of its existing location, according to 14th District Milwaukee Alderman Tony Zielinski.
After five summers in his existing storefront at 2481 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., Bigfoot owner Brian Curtiss decided that his growing customer base would best be served in a larger space. He contacted Alderman Zielinski, who Curtiss said helped him locate a new storefront.
“This store started out as a part-time experiment, but has grown into a thriving destination site for bikers, skateboarders and roller derby skaters,” Curtiss said. “We have had an incredible amount of support from the community and Alderman Zielinski, and we knew we needed to move but wanted to stay in Bay View.”
Work is now underway to prepare the storefront at 350 E. Ward St. (the corner of Kinnickinnic Ave. and E. Ward St.) for Bigfoot’s arrival. Curtiss said the new store offers him 4,500 square feet of floor space, half of which will serve as retail space. The remainder will constitute Bigfoot’s well-known bicycle repair center.
“I’m thrilled that Brian’s business has met with this success,” Alderman Zielinski said, “and I look forward to the vibrancy that Bigfoot will continue to contribute to the 14th Aldermanic District, which remains the hottest destination in the city.”
Curtiss said he plans to open in the new location September 1, with a grand opening party coinciding with Bay View Gallery Night on September 26.
