The No. 5/4 Marquette University men’s basketball team (8-1, 0-0 BIG EAST) returns to Fiserv Forum to host No. 11/11 Wisconsin (8-1, 0-1 Big Ten) on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 12:30 p.m CT.  FOX features the national television broadcast, with Jeff Levering (play-by-play) and Jim Jackson (analyst) calling the action.  Following Saturday’s outing, the Golden Eagles will focus on final exams before traveling to Dayton on Saturday, Dec. 14 to conclude the non-conference portion of the 2024-25 schedule.

Series With Badgers Dates Back To 1917

MU’s all-time series with Wisconsin dates back to 1917, with the first meeting coming in MU’s second season of competition.

Wisconsin owns a 71-59 edge in the previous matchups, with each squad enjoying an extended run of success at various points in the series.  Marquette’s best streak came between 1969 and 1984 when the team claimed 15-straight wins and 19-of-21 overall.

The Badgers earned a 75-64 win over the Golden Eagles at the Kohl Center on Dec. 2, 2023 in the most recent matchup and have claimed each of the past three outings.

The last meeting between the two programs when both squads were ranked in the top-25 came during the 2011-12 campaign and No. 16 Marquette posted a 61-54 win in Madison against ninth-ranked Wisconsin.

MU has met only DePaul more times (135) than Wisconsin in program history.

Marquette Rally At Iowa State Falls Short

Marquette trailed by as many as 13 points at No. 6/5 Iowa State on Wednesday night, before collecting a 10-0 run that tied the game at 61-61 with 9:09 left on a layup by senior guard Kam Jones.

The Cyclones, however, responded with a 14-0 run of their own and were able to hold off the Golden Eagles down the stretch in the 81-70 victory.

Already without the services of guard Zaide Lowery (knee), junior guard Chase Ross was limited to just 10 minutes after suffering an ankle injury in the first half.

Freshman Duo Goes Back To Prep School

The freshman duo of Royce Parham and Damarius Owens combined for 28 points and six rebounds on Wednesday night at Iowa State, a performance similar to what the combo collected as teammates who led Western Reserve Academy to the National Prep Championship in 2023-24.

Parham finished with a career-best 17 points on Wednesday, shooting 7-of-12 from the floor overall and 3-of-4 from behind the 3-point line. He also grabbed four rebounds and had a blocked shot in 23 minutes of action.

Owens finished with 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting, knocked down each of his first three treys and had two boards.  Owens made each of his first seven 3-point attempts on the season prior to missing late in the second half at ISU.

The first-year players have been roommates since their time at Western Reserve Academy.
