MSOC Hosts No. 7 Creighton

MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men’s soccer team (6-2-1) faces its second ranked opponent in as many BIG EAST matches, hosting No. 7 Creighton on Saturday evening. The Golden Eagles will celebrate returning alumni during their annual alumni reunion game.

Kickoff between MU and Creighton (8-0-2) is set for 6 p.m. CT at Valley Fields and will stream on ESPN+.

RANKED TEST
Friday marks Marquette’s third match against a nationally ranked foe this season after facing No. 23 Wisconsin on Aug. 31 (L, 1-3) and No. 9 Georgetown on Sept. 18 (L, 3-0).

• Creighton is the highest-ranked opponent on the 2026 schedule to date at No. 7 in the latest coaches poll.
• It is MU’s highest-ranked opponent since Oct. 28, 2023 (No. 7 Georgetown, L, 2-1).
• The Golden Eagles have dropped eight consecutive matches to ranked opponents, with their last result coming in a 1-1 draw at No. 7 Akron on Oct. 21, 2023.

HISTORY AGAINST TOP-10 OPPONENTS
Marquette’s last win over a top-10 opponent was a 1-0 victory over No. 1 Georgetown on Oct. 30, 2021 at Valley Fields. It was the Golden Eagles’ only win over a No. 1 team in program history.

• Marquette is 5-26-7 against top-10 opponents all-time and is seeking its first top-10 road victory since defeating No. 9 Michigan in 2013.

STRONG IN THE NONCONFERENCE
Now in its third season under Head Coach David Korn, Marquette is a combined 16-4-5 in the nonconference which includes a 6-0-2 mark in 2025 and a 6-1-1 mark in 2026.

• The Golden Eagles have lost just one nonconference match in its last 14 (10-1-3).
• MU’s last nonconference defeat to a non-ranked opponent came on Sept. 15, 2024, a 2-0 loss to UIC.
• Three of MU’s four nonconference losses under Korn came in have come against ranked opponent (Wisconsin 2x, Northwestern).

KORN’S BEST START
At 6-2-1, the Golden Eagles are off to the best nine-match start of the David Korn era, and already have as many wins as they recorded in 2024.

• Korn’s team’s finished with six wins in 2024 and seven in 2025.
• The 5-2-1 record is the program’s second best start in the last decade.
• MU’s six wins is one shy of matching the program’s highest win total in the past five seasons.

MILWAUKEE CUP RETAINED
On Sept. 22, Marquette retained the Milwaukee Cup with a 1-0 defeat of Milwaukee at Valley Fields. It marked the fifth straight year that the Golden Eagles have claimed the Cup after their 2022 win.

• The five-year run is Marquette’s longest stretch holding the Cup. It’s previous long was just three years from 1998-2000.

CLINICAL FINISHERS
Marquette has scored 18 goals on just 80 shots, converting 22.5% of its attempts, the best conversion rate in the country, 0.2% ahead of UNC Asheville.

• Only four schools around above 20%, including its upcoming opponent in Creighton (21.1%).
• Tomiwa Adewumi alone has scored on 53.3% of his shots (8-of-15).
• The Golden Eagles have scored on 41.9% of their shots on goal (18 goals on 43 SOG), the third-highest rate in the NCAA. MU is 0.1% behind Missouri State and 0.8% behind Creighton.
• MU’s 18 goals ranks 25th nationally.

QUALITY OVER QUANTITY
Despite ranking 189th nationally in shots per game (8.89), Marquette ranks among the nation’s most efficient attacking sides.

• The Golden Eagles average a goal every 4.4 shots attempted and every 2.4 shots on target.

SCORING TRIO
Three Marquette players have at least four goals: Tomiwa Adewumi (8), Mads Konrad Horgøien (4), Joey Buchanan (4). The trio accounts for 16 of MU’s 18 goals.

• Adewumi, Horgøien and Buchanan have combined for 16 goals.

SIMPSON’S ASCENT
Junior goalkeeper Cameron Simpson has already matched his shutout total from 2025 with two clean sheets through seven matches. He surpassed that on Sept. 22 with his third of the season coming in the Milwaukee Cup.

• Simpson owns a 6-2-1 record this season after entering the year with four career victories.
• His seven-save outing at Wisconsin was the highest save total by a Marquette goalkeeper Chandler Hallwood stopped nine in a 1-0 win over No. 1 Georgetown on Oct. 30, 2021.
