Candinas, Cervantes Tie for Third at Gopher Invitational
INDEPENDENCE, Minn. – Mischa Candinas and Vinny Cervantes tied for third to lead the Marquette University men’s golf team to a tie for sixth place at the 2nd Swing Gopher Invitational, which concluded Monday at Windsong Farm.
Mischa Candinas and Vinny Cervantes both finished at 3-under-par 210, tying for third individually in an 84-player field. In his first tournament of the season, Candinas posted rounds of 70-71-69, while Cervantes turned in scores of 71-69-70 to earn his second third-place finish of the season.
The pair accounted for two of the event’s 10 players to finish under par and helped the Golden Eagles climb the leaderboard after opening the tournament with a 14-over-par 302. Marquette responded with a second-round 286 (-2) before closing with a 2-over-par 290.
Marquette finished tied for sixth at 14-over-par 866 alongside West Virginia in the 15-team field.
Ryan Banas also contributed to the Golden Eagles’ effort, rebounding from an opening-round 78 with rounds of 70 and 73 to tie for 36th place at 8-over-par 221.
Wyatt Chapman tied for 65th at 15-over-par 228, while Mason Schmidtke finished 74th at 18-over-par 231.
