Milwaukee Public Schools Returns to In-Person Learning
Students will have an option of returning to school buildings in April
MILWAUKEE (March 25, 2021) — Milwaukee Public Schools announced Wednesday that students can return to school buildings for in-person learning starting in April. With the approval of the Milwaukee School Board of Directors, students will have the option of four days of in-person instruction and a day of virtual instruction. Families who would like for their children to continue learning remotely can remain virtual five days a week.
“This is an exciting time for our students, staff, and families as we can finally return to in-person instruction,” MPS Superintendent Dr. Keith P. Posley said. “We all have learned so much during this pandemic and we are using that knowledge and our learned experiences to support all of our young people and staff as we transition back into school buildings. Our district will continue to provide the best education for all our students, whether they are learning in-person or virtually.”
Students are scheduled to return to school on the following dates:
- Wednesday, April 14 – K3 through 3rd grade
- Monday, April 19 – 4th through 8th grade
- Monday, April 26 – 12th grade and high school students in danger of failing at least one course
Students in the 9th, 10th, and 11th grades will remain virtual for the remainder of the school year.
All MPS staff will return to school and district buildings Monday, April 12.
MPS has planned and implemented mitigation strategies and guidelines outlined by public health guidance. The district will welcome students and staff back safely by using physicaldistancing, practicing healthy habits such as hand washing and wearing masks, ensuring appropriate ventilation and air exchange in schools, as well as ensuring access to COVID-19 vaccinations for all staff.
To help students and families with the return to school buildings, we are encouraging them to visit the Roadmap to Readiness website’sFrequently Asked Question section for more information.
