WAUWATOSA, WI – Local artist and retired librarian John Suess is bringing a fresh perspective to a familiar setting as the Wauwatosa Public Library hosts his latest solo exhibition, Here and There. Suess, who dedicated over three decades to the Milwaukee Public Library system, returns to the library’s first-floor gallery to showcase over 20 new works that have been completed since his last exhibition at this venue.

On display now through Friday, January 31, Here and There includes several brand-new pieces making their public debut. This collection highlights Suess’ evolving artistic vision, featuring selections from two new series entitled “Reflections” and “Looking Up,” both of which explore the beauty in nature. Additionally, many of the paintings feature recognizable local scenes, reflecting Suess’ enduring connection to Wisconsin’s natural beauty and his ability to capture its charm and serenity through his unique artistic style.

“I’m thrilled to exhibit my work in a place that has meant so much to me,” said Suess. “Libraries are community hubs for inspiration and knowledge, and I hope my paintings add to that atmosphere of discovery.”

Since retiring from his library career in 2007, Suess has devoted his time to painting and has created over 150 works. Blending impressionism, tonalism, and realism, his art focuses on nature and landscapes. His paintings have been displayed in public libraries, galleries, and juried exhibitions across Wisconsin, earning him widespread recognition for his ability to bring the Midwest’s charm to life.

Suess last exhibited at the Wauwatosa Public Library in July 2021, as the first exhibit following the pandemic.
