Summerfest Generates $221.6 Million in Economic Impact for Milwaukee, an Increase of More Than 38% From 2023
Two Garth Brooks Concerts Contributed an Additional $30 Million in Impact
MILWAUKEE – (October 5, 2026) – Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. (MWF); an independent, non-profit that produces Summerfest presented by American Family Insurance and maintains and improves Henry Maier Festival Park; today announced the results of a study on the economic and fiscal impact of Summerfest 2026. The independent study, conducted by Tourism Economics; an Oxford Economics company and leader in global economic forecasting and analysis; found that Summerfest generated $221.6 million in economic impact for the City of Milwaukee and $259.2 million for Wisconsin’s economy, a substantial annual contribution, placing it among the states most significant events.
Compared to the 2023 Oxford Economics study, Summerfest’s impact increased by more than 38% in the City of Milwaukee, rising from $160.3 million to $221.6 million, and more than 37% statewide, increasing from $188.7 million to $259.2 million. Direct spending in the local community totaled $147.5 million during Summerfest’s three weekends. That spending was driven by visitor and vendor expenditures on lodging, dining, transportation, retail purchases, entertainment, and other goods and services.
The 2026 festival also supported approximately 4,300 full-time and part-time jobs and generated $15.5 million in state and local tax revenue for the City of Milwaukee. For the State of Wisconsin, Summerfest supported 4,600 full-time and part-time jobs and generated $18.3 million in state and local tax revenue.
“Summerfest is a powerful economic engine driving growth across Milwaukee and Wisconsin,” said Sarah Pancheri, President and CEO, Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. “These results reflect the impact of Milwaukee World Festival’s investment in Summerfest and Henry Maier Festival Park. For nearly 60 years, MWF has grown Summerfest into a destination that attracts visitors from around the world, supports local businesses and generates meaningful economic benefits for our city and state. As the live entertainment industry continues to evolve, we remain focused on delivering world-class experiences that create lasting value for our community.”
The study also examined the economic impact of Summerfest’s opening-night kickoff concerts featuring Garth Brooks. The two concerts drew a combined 44,764 fans, including more than 25,000 non-local patrons, contributing an additional economic impact of $30.8 million for the City of Milwaukee and $36.1 million for the State of Wisconsin. The concerts drove more than $20 million in on-site and off-site visitor spending, supported approximately 480 jobs, and generated $2.6 million in tax revenue for the City of Milwaukee. For the State of Wisconsin, the concerts support 570 jobs and generated $3 million in tax revenue.
The findings of the study were recently presented at the International Entertainment Buyers Association (IEBA) Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, which included Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. President and CEO Sarah Pancheri.
Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. will release the results of the 2026 economic impact study for the full Henry Maier Festival Park season later this year, following the conclusion of all scheduled events.
