Walker has been too busy cozying up to Trump to stand up for Wisconsin jobs

In response to the news that iconic Wisconsin company Harley-Davidson will be shifting some of its production overseas as a result of Donald Trump‘s economic policies, the Democratic Party of Wisconsin issued the following statement:

“It’s not enough for Governor Walker to issue a polite press release when Wisconsin jobs are at stake. It is true that Walker is afraid to stand up to Donald Trump, but he also owns this mess as much as Trump does. As governor, Walker has a responsibility to act with all the force of his office to protect Wisconsin jobs. While Scott Walker shares the stage with Trump later this week, voters will remember that he failed to protect Harley-Davidson and Wisconsin’s jobs.

“Governor Walker’s economic agenda has been a disaster for Wisconsin, which is why Wisconsin’s job growth continues to lag the nation’s. If Walker had been able to keep up with the rest of the nation’s governors, Wisconsin would have an additional 131,000 jobs. That’s ten times the 13,000 jobs that Walker says his $4.5 billion Foxconn boondoggle will deliver under its best case scenario.” — TJ Helmstetter, DPW spokesperson for 2018 gubernatorial race

It’s past time for Walker to move on. He’s done enough damage to Wisconsin. As long as he cozies up to all Trump stands for, our state and this country will be on a downward slide. What is happening with Harley Davidson is shameful and could have been prevented. Enough.

  2. Gov. Walker’s political machine was dealt major low yesterday by the Wisconsin Supreme Court. The Wisconsin Supreme Court clipped the wings of Labor and Industry Review commission and Equal Right Division which had been partisan agencies and had claimed to be more powerful than Courts. The Supreme Court removed deference of Courts to agency decisions. Court from now will review agency decisions de novo as Appeal Courts do with circuit court decisions. Wisconsin Courts had been rubber stamping LIRC and other agency decisions. It was extremely hard and even impossible for people filing discrimination complaints against state agencies to prevail in agencies which had corruptly dismissed people complaints for political reasons..

  3. Mike says:

It’s easy to say Walker owns this. The facts say otherwise. Harley’s business in the US has been declining for some years now, and they need to pay attention to where their markets really are now, in Asia. Moving their Kansas City operations to Thailand was announced before Trump started his tariff comments. Walker cannot be held responsible for some other country’s tariffs, and most people understand this. For the Dems to lay this on Walker is not only unreasonable, but smacks of desperation.

  4. DAG999 says:

The State (and now the Federal government) has given away MILLIONS in tax cuts and tax advantages, yet business continue the move to Mexico and other countries after getting big handouts without any repercussions or penalties Big companies like JOHNSON CONTROLS move their headquarters out claiming oppressive tax laws–while they were only paying something like 17% adjusted rates anyway, and people (Republicans esp) fell for it. Meanwhile, the state is out of money and far, far from the “surplus” we were told existed after this new guy took the reins. I give up.
