Greg & Linda Marcus, Dr. Lucille Rosenberg to be Honored as COA Yourth & Family Centers’ Parents of the Year

Each year at this event, COA recognizes two Milwaukee couples for their outstanding leadership in the community and their commitment to family.

MILWAUKEE, WI  –  COA Youth & Family Centers will honor Greg and Linda Marcus and Dr. Lucille (Lucy) Rosenberg at the agency’s 33rd annual Parents of the Year luncheon on Monday, August 24th at The Pfister Hotel, 424 East Wisconsin Avenue. The event reception begins at 11:30 a.m., with luncheon and program from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Each year at this event, COA recognizes two Milwaukee couples for their outstanding leadership in the community and their commitment to family. This year’s luncheon is sponsored by The Marcus Corporation, Stephen and Shelagh Roell, Irgens,  Weyco Group, Inc., BMO Harris Bank, Foley & Lardner LLP, Godfrey & Kahn S.C., Jack & Lucy Rosenberg Philanthropic Fund, Lubar & Co., McGladrey LLP, MukLuks, Quarles & Brady LLP, Robert W. Baird & Company, Allen Silverstein Law Offices, and United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County. Proceeds will support COA’s continuum of educational, recreational, and social work programs.

“We are honored to be named Parents of the Year because family is the center of all the great work COA does throughout our community. My parents received this award nearly 15 years ago and we are proud to follow in their footsteps,” said Greg Marcus. “COA has been helping children, teens and families for more than 100 years.  Greg and I are firm believers in strong families as the foundation for strong communities and are proud to support COA’s mission,” added Linda Marcus.

Greg Marcus is President and Chief Executive Officer of The Marcus Corporation, a Milwaukee-based company that is a leader in lodging and entertainment. He currently serves on the board of directors for several Milwaukee nonprofit organizations including the Greater Milwaukee Foundation, Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce, United Performing Arts Fund, Milwaukee Development Corporation, and United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County. Linda Marcus is the owner of Linda Marcus Design, a handbag and apparel company she founded in 2009.

A portion of the profits from Linda Marcus Designs benefits KIVA, a micro-loan organization. In addition to her active corporate philanthropic commitment, Mrs. Marcus serves on the boards of the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) and Mount Mary University. Kurt Bechtold, Chief Executive Officer of Payne & Dolan Inc. is co-chairing the event on behalf of Greg & Linda Marcus.

“Our holistic, family-centered approach has defined COA’s mission for over a century,” said Tom Schneider, COA’s Executive Director.  “We strive to provide parents with the skills, confidence, and support they need to empower their children to reach their greatest potential and we are so honored to have the opportunity to recognize Greg and Linda Marcus and the Dr. Rosenberg as individuals who exemplify what it means to be great parents.”

Dr. Lucy Rosenberg is a retired pediatrician and child psychiatrist. She has served on COA’s Board of Directors since 2000 and held the offices of Vice President from 2002 to 2005 and President from 2006 to 2008.  She became the first female president of the Milwaukee County Medical Society in 1985 and presently serves on the boards of directors for the Mental Health Association and Kids Matter. Attorney Allen Silverstein of Allen Silverstein Law Offices, also a former COA Board President, will be co-chairing the event of behalf of Dr. Rosenberg.
