Board of Fire & Police Commissioners to Consider Policy Authorizing the Milwaukee Police Department to Tow Unregistered Vehicles Engaged in Reckless Driving

On Thursday, January 27, 2022, at 5:30 p.m., the Fire and Police Commission Policies and Standards Committee will consider a significant amendment to Milwaukee Police Department Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) 610 – Towing of Vehicles. This amendment would allow police officers to tow unregistered vehicles engaged in the following unsafe behaviors:

  1. Endangering safety by reckless driving
  2. Exceeding the posted speed limit by 25 MPH or more
  3. Fleeing from an officer
  4. Drag racing

The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners welcomes public comment at the beginning of each meeting. All FPC meeting notices are available on the City of Milwaukee Legistar System.
