MILWAUKEE – The City of Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) proudly announces the appointment of Jefflyn Brown as the new Deputy Commissioner of Clinical Services.

With over two decades of dedicated service in healthcare, Brown brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role. A Milwaukee native and graduate of Milwaukee Public Schools, Brown began her healthcare journey as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She later earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee in 2016 and her Master’s Degree in Nursing from Capella University in 2019.

Brown’s extensive career includes roles in neonatal and pediatric ICU, case management, HIV/AIDS care, behavioral health, leadership, education, and administration. She has also served as Nursing Faculty for Milwaukee Area Technical College and held adjunct roles at other universities.

Prior to her appointment, Brown served as MHD’s Director of Nursing. In her new title, Brown will play a pivotal role in advancing MHD’s clinical operations and enhancing patient care services, specifically in sexual and reproductive health, immunizations, tuberculosis control, and communicable disease programs. She is dedicated to fostering community partnerships and improving healthcare outcomes for Milwaukee residents.

Brown’s commitment to community service and healthcare advocacy stems from personal experiences. As a teen mother, Brown was mentored by an MHD community nurse. She later secured an MHD internship while being a mother of two. Additionally, Brown’s advocacy for culturally competent care and Urban Indian and Native health is influenced by her husband’s tribal membership, underscoring her dedication to making a difference.

Commissioner of Health, Mike Totoraitis, shared his excitement regarding Brown’s appointment. “We’re thrilled to welcome Jefflyn Brown as Deputy Commissioner of Clinical Services,” Totoraitis said. “Her experience, dedication, and passion for healthcare advocacy make her the perfect fit to lead our clinical operations.”

Expressing her gratitude and enthusiasm for her new role, Brown stated, “I am deeply grateful and honored to accept this promotion to the role of Deputy Commissioner of Clinical Services. In this new capacity, I eagerly anticipate implementing innovative strategies aimed at improving the health and well-being of our community.”
