Elected to Milwaukee Common Council in 2016. Became council president in 2020 after re-election.
On Dec. 22 Johnson became acting mayor of Milwaukee following the resignation of Tom Barrett. Johnson was elected to the remainder of Tom Barrett’s term (through 2024) on April 5, 2022.
