Jacob Reeves, pictured at home in Stoughton, was diagnosed in 2014 with juvenile dermatomyositis — a rare disease that his mother Dawn attributes to the high level of atrazine found in their well water. "I only cried once," Dawn Reeves said, "when they said he might not walk again." Photo by Coburn Dukehart of the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism. Oct 17th, 2016 by Rachael Lallensack

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett spoke at a symposium Sept. 7, 2016 in Milwaukee vowing the city will be "aggressive" in replacing its 70,000 lead service lines to reduce the risk of lead in drinking water. • Murphy’s Law: State Drags Feet On Lead-Tainted Water

City of Madison crews replace lead service lines leading into a home. The city’s decade-long lead pipe replacement program, begun in 2001, is considered a model of how to remove harmful lead from municipal water systems. Current federal regulations require only replacement of utility-owned lead pipes, which can increase rather than decrease lead levels in water. Photo from the Madison Water Utility. • Tainted Water: Wisconsin A Leader in Strontium Pollution

Milwaukee posted this warning about high strontium levels in spring 2015 on the popular public well where residents fill up drinking water jugs in the city’s Bay View neighborhood. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is considering regulation of this naturally occurring metal, which is found in the highest concentrations nationwide in southeast Wisconsin. Consumption of strontium can lead to bone and tooth problems in children. Photo by Katherine Keller of the Bay View Compass. Mar 14th, 2016 by Jane Roberts
