Historic building on N. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. in Milwaukee’s Westown neighborhood. Tenants include Uber Tap Room and Wisconsin Cheese Mart. Former tenant was Buckhead Saloon, which was converted to Red, White and Blue in 2015 by the same owners.

According to H. Russell Zimmernan’s The Heritage Guidebook…

Once the home of William Steinmeyer Co., wholesale and retail grocers, this imposing building was completed the year after the founder died. Based on a cash-only philosophy, Steinmeyer had build a huge business by sending order solicitors around Milwaukee one day and making deliveries the next day. In the new building his son-in-law, Emil Ott, and his brother, Charles, continued the reputation for quality, service, and reasonable price until national chains and automobiles forced them to close in 1940. The handsome Richardsonian Romanesque building was designed by architects Ferry & Clas and cost $50,000. The pressed red brick is trimmed with orange terra-cotta and wrought iron. The structure was enlarged in 1898.
