Release From Historic Water Tower Neighborhood Association Regarding St. Mary’s Hospital
The Historic Water Tower Neighborhood association has had a long and cooperative relationship with ownership of St. Mary’s Hospital for several decades.
Recently, we have had preliminary meetings with Ascension leadership to identify the highest and best future uses of the 1909 historic hill hospital building. Our priorities for the 1909 hill building include maintaining the integrity of the historic structure, inside and out, as well as determining how this asset can be used as a catalyst for improvement of the surrounding neighborhood and the whole North Avenue corridor.
The September 2, 2026 public meeting of our association involved a lively, open, and productive exchange of information and ideas between representatives of Ascension and our membership. We view this cooperative process as another opportunity to explore ways to pursue our core values; to preserve, protect, and enhance the historic neighborhood and its environs, while also helping Ascension to achieve its own goals.
