A sanguine Bastille Days

When the runners took to the streets of Milwaukee to “Storm the Bastille“, it was a sort of calm before the storm as a deep heat wave would hit the area by Sunday.  But plenty of Francophiles did come out to Cathedral Square and the surrounding eight city blocks to have their cake and eat it too — even if that cake was shaped as Marie Antoinette.

There was plenty of things to feature at this year’s 30th anniversary of all things French known as Bastille Days, even if you discount three stages of musical acts, Parisian and provincial foods and wines, and stinky cheese.

The four-day party featured the return of sidewalk chalk artists like Stacey Williams-Ng, waiter/waitress races, Learning to Speak French lessons, belly and can-can dancers, masses in French at Old St. Mary’s, a pooch parade, and tons of vendors.
