Watch The Lake Express High Speed Ferry Dock

By - Dec 10th, 2008 09:57 am

While the title may not sound that exciting, the Lake Express High-Speed Ferry docks in the Menomonee River valley for the winter.  To get there, it must travel in from Lake Michigan.  They created a time-lapse photography video to show the journey and published it online.  If you’ve got two minutes, it’s interesting to watch the bridges rise and see what your view would be like if owned a yacht (or coal barge).

“A few visible landmarks and points of interest along the way include:
– Milwaukee skyline with Milwaukee Art Museum
– The Daniel Hoan Memorial Bridge
– Henry Maier Festival Park – home to Summerfest
– Milwaukee’s Third Ward
– Milwaukee’s downtown post office
– Amtrak rail departure bound for Chicago
– the Harley Davidson Motorcycle Museum
– Santiago Calatrava designed [sic] 6th Street viaduct
– Former site of Sprecher Brewing (crest visible on stacks)
– Milwaukee high rise / Marquette Interchange
– Coal barges bound for Milwaukee’s power plant.
– The Potawatomi Casino torch”

Cool, but where is this “Santiago Calatrava designed 6th Street viaduct” you speak of?

You really mean “David Kahler designed 6th Street viaduct”, OK technicallity, neat non the less!

Absolutely 100% correct. I left it in there as a quote from their video description.

If memory serves me correct, I believe the idea was to get something that reflected the look of the art museum though.

Thank you for the awesome video.
The City looks quite different from the river.
    Very cool.

  4. Paul Theis says:

Very cool. Thanks. (Nice music, too.)

Would it be correct to assume that running the Lake Express High Speed Ferry to and from Chicago during the Winter is not a possibility?

  5. Dave Reid says:

@Paul Yea that is a fun video isn’t it… You get to see a little of the city often unseen. As far as running it to and from Chicago I don’t know.
