Council Approves HaRUNbee Walk/Run For Healthy Birth Outcomes As Part Of Bronzeville Week 2021

The Common Council today recommended for approval legislation making the HaRUNbee Walk/Run for Healthy Birth Outcomes an official part of the 2021 Bronzeville Week (August 7 – August 14).

This year the event will be held both virtually and in person. The HaRUNbee Walk/Run is taking place on, Saturday, August 7th in person; participants can also complete the Walk/Run in their own neighborhood, or on self-designed routes from August 1 to August 7.

Common Council File #210360 – sponsored by Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs – makes the HaRUNbee Walk/Run an official part of the upcoming 10th annual Bronzeville Week. Original co-sponsors of the file are Alderwoman Nikiya DoddAlderman Khalif J. RaineyAlderwoman Chantia Lewis, and Alderwoman JoCasta Zamarripa.

“The goal of the HaRUNbee Walk/Run is to raise awareness of infant mortality, and encourage collaborations within the greater Milwaukee area to reduce it,” Alderwoman Coggs said. “Additionally, we continue to work to eliminate racial disparities in healthy birth outcomes and through this annual event, we also promote wellness and the importance of staying healthy and fit, both physically and mentally.”

In conjunction with Bronzeville Week, the National Coalition for Healthy Black Families has helped organize the HaRUNbee Walk/Run for Healthy Birth Outcomes. A number of local organizations are sponsoring the 2021 HaRUNbee event, including Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin and the City of Milwaukee Health Department.
