Third North Side Business Incubator Draws Record Response

Healthy soul food, herbal pain relievers and a combination cinema and coffee shop are among the enterprising ideas that will be presented at the North Side Business Incubator. Twenty-three residents will participate in the free incubator workshop set for Thursday, Aug. 31, 1- 5 p.m. at St. Ann Center’s Bucyrus Campus, 2450 W. North Ave.

Sponsored by Milwaukee Ald. Russell W. Stamper II, St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care and Marketplace Business Improvement District (BID) 32, the incubator is designed to help jumpstart locally owned businesses in the 15th Aldermanic District.

“We got an overwhelming response from the north side community,” said John Jansen, Vice President of Grants, Community & Capital Development and workshop coordinator. “It shows how many people are interested in opening small businesses or expanding existing ones.”

More than 50 business ideas were submitted, so organizers scheduled another workshop for September.

All participants will have a chance to meet one-on-one with Ald. Stamper, business coaches and investors to discuss their ideas. They’ll also receive step-by-step guidance to help write or enhance a business plan and the opportunity to network with city officials, mentors and other business hopefuls.

“We did this twice last year, and the quality of the business proposals keeps getting better and better,” Jansen said. “There are a lot of business dreams about to come true on the north side, and our whole community is going to benefit. This is the start of something big.”
