WBB Travels to Drake for WBIT First Round on Thursday

The Marquette University women’s basketball team plays Drake in the first round of the WBIT on Thursday, March 20 at 2 p.m. CT in Des Moines, Iowa.

ESPN+ features the broadcast. The winner of Thursday’s matchup advances to face the winner of the James Madison-Davidson game on Sunday, March 23.

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS
Marquette reached 20 wins for the fifth-straight year and seventh time in the last eight seasons.
Cara Consuegra earned BIG EAST Co-Coach of the Year honors.
Skylar Forbes was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team as a sophomore.
Senior Lee Volker earned All-BIG EAST Second Team honors.
The Golden Eagles finished fourth in the BIG EAST with a 12-6 conference record after being picked 10th in the preseason coaches’ poll.
Marquette was 13-2 at home, the fifth time in the last six seasons MU won 13-or-more games at the Al McGuire Center.
The Golden Eagles won the Battle on the Banks over Thanksgiving weekend, an MTE hosted by Rutgers, defeating the Scarlet Knights and Maryland Eastern Shore at Jersey Mike’s Arena.

POSTSEASON HISTORY
Marquette is making its 26th postseason appearance.
The Golden Eagles have been to 15 NCAA tournaments and 10 WNITs.
Marquette won the 2008 WNIT when Cara Consuegra was an assistant coach for the Golden Eagles.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Drake finished fourth in the Misouri Valley Conference at 15-5.
Senior guard Katie Dinnebier earned MVC Player of the Year honors and was named to the All-MVC First Team and MVC All-Defensive Team.
Dinnebier is sixth in the nation, averaging 23.4 points per game and leads the NCAA with 7.3 assists per game.
Senior forward Anna Miller was named to the All-MVC Second Team and MVC All-Defensive Team.

ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST DRAKE
Thursday night will be the fifth meeting all-time between Marquette and Drake, with the series tied 2-2.
The programs have not met since the 2004-05 season, when MU won 73-54 in Des Moines on Nov. 26, 2004.
The Golden Eagles are 36-28 against Missouri Valley opponents all-time.
MU last faced an MVC opponent this season in December, defeating Illinois State 78-57 on Dec. 8, 2024 at the Al McGuire Center.
