WBB Plays Villanova in BIG EAST Quarterfinals on Saturday
Golden Eagles and Wildcats tipoff at 1:30 p.m. CT at Mohegan Sun Arena
The Marquette University women’s basketball team plays Villanova in the quarterfinals of the 2025 BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Tournament on Saturday, March 8 at 1:30 p.m. CT at Mohegan Sun Arena.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
• Villanova finished fifth in the BIG EAST with a conference record of 11-7.
• The Wildcats have two postseason conference award winners in Jasmine Bascoe (All-BIG EAST First Team, All-Freshman Team) and Maddie Webber (All-BIG EAST Second Team).
MEETINGS THIS SEASON
• Marquette won 64-59 in Milwaukee on Jan. 11, 2025.
• It was Marquette’s second-largest deficit in a victory this season after being down 13 in the second quarter.
• Halle Vice had her third double-double of the season with a career-high 20 points and career-high tying 12 rebounds.
• Villanova won 65-53 in Philadelphia on Feb. 2, 2025.
• Marquette was up by seven in the first quarter, the largest lead in a loss this season.
• Halle Vice had a career-high tying 20 points and eight rebounds to lead MU.
• It was MU’s first game without a made three since Feb. 7, 2024 when MU won 52-38 over Georgetown.
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST VILLANOVA
• Marquette and Villanova are meeting for the 38th time on Saturday.
• MU leads the all-time series, 20-17.
• The Golden Eagles and Wildcats split the series this season, with each team winning on its home floor.
BIG EAST TOURNAMENT HISTORY
• Marquette and Villanova have met five times before at the BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Tournament with MU leading the series, 4-1.
• The Golden Eagles are 3-0 in the quarterfinals against the Wildcasts, including last year’s 50-48 win on March 9, 2024.
CONSUEGRA NAMED BIG EAST COACH OF THE YEAR
• Cara Consuegra was named BIG EAST Co-Coach of the Year on Thursday with UConn’s Geno Auriemma.
• The Golden Eagles finished the season with a 13-2 at the Al McGuire Center, tied for the best home record by a first-year head coach.
• Marquette reached 20 wins in 28 games, tied for the second-fastest road to 20 wins by a first-year head coach in program history with Terri Mitchell (1996-97).
• Consuegra also tied Mitchell for the most wins in February in her first year with six.
• She earned her fifth BIG EAST road win of the season on Saturday, Jan. 25 at Georgetown, the most conference road wins by a first-year head coach in program history.
SKYLAR ON ALL-BIG EAST FIRST TEAM
• Skylar Forbes was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team, the ninth sophomore in program history to be named first team all-conference.
• Forbes led the Golden Eagles in scoring at 15.1 points per game and had six 20-point games.
• The Markham, Ontario native scored in double-figures in 23-of-28 games and led the BIG EAST in blocks with 52 on the season, one away from tying the program’s single season record.
LEE ON ALL-BIG EAST SECOND TEAM
• Lee Volker was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team.
• The senior averaged career-bests 13.1 points and 4.8 rebounds per game while starting in all 29 games during the regular season.
• The Purcellville, Virginia native has scored in double-figures in 20-of-29 games this season and had a career-high 24 points in the road win at Seton Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 12.
