WBB Hosts Butler on Saturday at 3 p.m. CT

Golden Eagles wrap up two-game conference homestand

MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women’s basketball team hosts Butler on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 3 p.m. CT at the Al McGuire Center.

FS1 features the national broadcast with Kylen Mills (play-by-play) and Shimmy Gray-Miller (analyst) on the call.

MU OPENS 20TH BIG EAST CAMPAIGN
• Marquette, which joined the BIG EAST Conference in 2005-06, opens its 20th campaign in the league on Sunday when the squad travels to DePaul.
• The Golden Eagles are 211-152 (.581 winning percentage) in BIG EAST play and have had 12 winning seasons.
• Marquette won the 2018-19 regular season title finishing 15-3 in conference play.
• MU were crowned BIG EAST tournament champion in 2017 when the Golden Eagles beat DePaul 86-78 in the final.

ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST BUTLER
• Marquette and Butler are meeting for the 32nd time on Saturday.
• MU leads the all-time series 22-9 and have won the last nine meetings.
• The Golden Eagles have won by an average of 21.0 points in the nine-game win streak over Butler.

FORBES LEADING THE WAY
• Skylar Forbes is leading the team at 15.6 points per game this season and has  three 20-point games along with two double-doubles.
• The sophomore forward has three conference honor roll selections this season to lead the team and has made a team-high 22 3-pointers.
• Forbes was the lone Golden Eagle to have started a game at MU coming into this season and has scored in double-figures in 11-of-13 games this season.

VOLKER CAREER SCORING STRETCH
• Lee Volker has scored in double-figures in 10-of-13 games this season after having three double-figures scoring games coming into the season.
• The senior guard had a career-high 21 points against Milwauke on Dec. 15.
• Volker has had career-highs in points (21), rebounds (10), assists (5), steals (7) field goals made (8) and 3-pointers made (3) this season.

DEFENSE LEADS THE WAY FOR MU
• Marquette is first in the BIG EAST and 16th in the nation in field goal percentage defense (34.6 percent) and have held opponents to under 45 percent from the floor in all 13 games this season.
• MU is 41st nationally holding opponents to 56.2 points per game.
• The Golden Eagles have held opponents to under 53 points five times and have held teams to 10-point-or-less in 15 quarters this season.

CRASH THE GLASS
• In Marquette’s nine wins this season, the Golden Eagles have outrebounded their opponents by an average of 14.4 rebounds per game.
• A Marquette player has pulled down six-or-more rebounds 27 times this season, led by Halle Vice who has done it nine times in 13 games.
