WBB Hangs On to Defeat St. John’s Wednesday Night, 57-55
Golden Eagles travel to Butler Sunday afternoon
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women’s basketball team continued BIG EAST play with a 57-55 win over St. John’s on Wednesday night at the Al McGuire Center.
The Golden Eagles (15-7, 7-3 BIG EAST) were led by Skylar Forbes, who had a game-high 15 points and six rebounds. Lee Volker added 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting with five rebounds and three assists. Halle Vice had eight points and ten rebounds.
The Golden Eagles were held to just nine points in the third quarter while shooting 18 percent from the field. MU held a two-point lead heading into the final frame, 41-39.
The Red Storm tied the game up at 41-41 at the 8:56 mark of the fourth quarter. There were three ties in the final frame and MU’s largest lead was five with 1:22 remaining. St. John’s hit a three with 45 seconds left to make it a two-point game at 55-57 and had an opportunity to tie at the buzzer.
St. John’s (13-10, 3-9 BIG EAST) was led by Ber’Nyah Mayo, who had 13 points, six rebounds and four assists.
NOTABLES:
- Wednesday night was the first and only regular season between Marquette and St. John’s.
- Halle Vice had her sixth game this season with 10-or-more rebounds.
- Marquette had 16 assists on 19 made baskets.
- The Golden Eagles 19 baskets were the fewest field goals made in a win this season.
