WBB Earns 68-61 Road Win at Seton Hall Wednesday Night

Golden Eagles host DePaul on Saturday for Alumni Day

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Marquette University women’s basketball team continued BIG EAST play with a 68-61 at Seton Hall on Wednesday night.

The Golden Eagles (16-8, 8-5 BIG EAST) were led by Lee Volker, who had a career-high 24 points, seven rebounds and two assists.

Halle Vice had her fourth double-double of the season with 19 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Skylar Forbes added 11 points and nine rebounds.

Marquette stormed out to a 10-2 lead before the Pirates ended the first quarter on a 12-6 run, including keeping the Golden Eagles scoreless the final three minutes of the first frame.

The game was tied at 30-30 at half, the first time this season MU has been tied at the break. Lee Volker led all scorers with 10 points in the second quarter.

An 11-0 run in the middle of the third gave Marquette a 44-38 lead at the third quarter media timeout. The Pirates countered with a 6-0 run of their own to tie it at 44 with 2 minutes left in the third. MU went on an 8-2 run the rest of the quarter including to match its largest lead of the day, 54-46, headed to the final frame.

The Golden Eagles stretched the lead to as many as 12 in the fourth quarter. Seton Hall battled back to within five points, 64-59, with one minute and 39 seconds remaining but free throws down the stretch sealed the win for Marquette.

Seton Hall (17-7, 9-4 BIG EAST) was led by Jada Eads, who had 26 points, 19 coming in the first half. Faith Masonius (16.6 points per game) was held to six points on 3-of-13 shooting.

NOTABLES:

  • Skylar ForbesHalle Vice and Lee Volker all scored in double figures for the sixth time this season and fourth time in BIG EAST play.
  • Lee Volker had her fourth 20-point game of the season and third in conference play.
  • Halle Vice had her fourth double-double of the season and third in conference play.
  • Marquette outrebounded Seton Hall 41-28.
