Reps. Tenorio, Prado, and Sen. Drake Introduce a Resolution on Immigrant Heritage Month
MADISON, Wis. – Earlier this month, Reps Angelito Tenorio, Priscilla A. Prado, and Sen. Dora Drake authored a resolution proclaiming June 2025 as Immigrant Heritage Month in Wisconsin.
The resolution was introduced at a time where immigrant families across the nation and Wisconsin are increasingly being targeted by discriminatory practices and political rhetoric—particularly at the direction of the Trump administration and legislative Republicans. The resolution aims to both celebrate and reaffirm the immense value immigrants bring to Wisconsin’s cultural, economic, and civic life.
“Immigrant stories are Wisconsin stories. We must uplift the truth that immigrants are essential to the fabric of our state. From small businesses to schools, from our neighborhoods to our hospitals, immigrants have shaped this state in countless ways. This resolution is a step toward recognizing their contributions to our communities with dignity,” said Rep. Prado.
“While many repeat the words of Martin Luther King’s dream of a nation where individuals are judged by the content of their character, not by the color of their skin, many of those same people have not included immigrants in that dream. Today, many immigrants and their descendants have contributed to this great state and nation through service to our national security, economic development, education, and community engagement. They are our neighbors and fellow Wisconsinites who share a common dream of providing a future for their families and our state. It is time that we truly follow the words of this American hero and recognize immigrants as a part of our communities and our great nation.” said Sen. Dora Drake, Chair of the Legislative Black Caucus
While legislative Republicans have not yet scheduled the resolution for a floor vote, the authors emphasize the importance of its message. The resolution calls on Wisconsinites to “come together in a spirit of unity, kindness, and inclusivity, rejecting prejudice…and celebrating their ongoing contributions to our communities and state.”
