MILWAUKEE, Wis. (August 18, 2016) — The national law firm of Quarles & Brady LLP today announced that Milwaukee office managing partner, Katie Maloney Perhach, has received a 2016 Philanthropic 5 award from the United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County.

The Philanthropic 5 Award, created by United Way’s Emerging Leaders Council, recognizes five community leaders in their 20s, 30s and 40s who have made extraordinary commitments of leadership, volunteerism, mentoring, and philanthropy to Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha’s nonprofit community.  Perhach and the other four leaders will be honored at an event at South Second on August 18.

The Philanthropic 5 Award Winners also receive $500.00 to invest in the cause of their choice.  Perhach has chosen as her recipient the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center of Milwaukee, Inc., and its Shiluv program, for its unparalleled commitment to inclusive summer camp experiences for children with developmental disabilities and special needs.

Perhach has undertaken a multitude of pro bono legal matters where she represents community members who cannot afford legal representation.  Her representation of the poor includes obtaining guardianships for families for their children with developmental disabilities and other special needs through the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Guardianship Clinic, offering legal advice to walk-in clients at the Marquette Volunteer Legal Clinic at the United Community Center, representing people seeking asylum in the United States, and representing victims of domestic abuse as they seek restraining orders against their abusers through the Sojourner Family Peace Center Restraining Order Clinic.

In the community, she was appointed by the Governor to serve on the Wisconsin Board for People with Developmental Disabilities and she offers further support to more than 10 different organizations, including Pius XI Catholic High School, the Down Syndrome Association of Wisconsin, Penfield Children’s Center, Special Olympics of Wisconsin, Gigi’s Playhouse, and the United Community Center.

As the Milwaukee office managing partner, Katie’s passion for service extends even further through her support of education, hunger, disability rights, and non-profit organizations in the greater Milwaukee community, including the United Way, the United Performing Arts Fund, Milwaukee Public School Benjamin Franklin, Hunger Task Force, Cristo Rey Jesuit High School Milwaukee, Life Navigators, and Aurora Family to Family Thanksgiving.
“Katie does so much for the firm, the community, and her family,” said Firm Chair Kimberly Leach Johnson. “She is very active in the pro bono community and is an inspiration for the firm. No one is more deserving of this award than Katie.”

Katie Perhach is the chair of the firm’s Financial Institutions Litigation Group. She has substantial experience in lender liability claims, commercial loan enforcement, real estate disputes, and eminent domain matters. She also regularly advises and represents clients in bankruptcy and receivership cases. Her practice extends to matters in state, federal, and bankruptcy court. She earned her undergraduate degree, summa cum laude, from Marquette University, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and her law degree, cum laude, from Marquette University Law School.
