Eyewitness: The Moth in Milwaukee Brings Five Storytellers to Turner Hall Sept. 16
Now in its 18th year, The Moth has shared more than 15,000 true stories on stage
MILWAUKEE – The Moth Mainstage comes to Turner Hall Ballroom on Sept. 16 for a celebrated night of storytelling in Eyewitness: The Moth in Milwaukee. The night will be focused on stories that explore truth in the eyes of the beholder, including epic battles, tough choices, false accusation and redemption.
The Moth is a national not-for-profit organization that has presented more than 15,000 true stories through live storytelling since 1997. Upon its inception, The Moth sparked a renewed interested in the art of oral storytelling and paved the way for live stories to captivate audiences around the country.
“I think people seek meaningful connections in their entertainment choices, and The Moth evokes those personal feelings through really great, honest stories,” says Sarah Haberman, Milwaukee native and executive director of The Moth.
The Moth Mainstage flagship program is a staple of literary and art scenes in New York City and Los Angeles, but also tours throughout the U.S. and abroad, where favorite storytellers from past Moth shows share the stage with local voices.
At the Milwaukee event, five storytellers will share their personal, entertaining and enlightening stories, expertly developed with The Moth’s directors. Tellers include a U.S. Army National Guard soldier from Iraq, a Polish emigrant who is also an award-winning actress, Milwaukee’s own John McGivern, and others who offer up their poignant and candid life experiences to spectators.
Award-winning author Dan Kennedy, who is also the host of The Moth’s podcast, will host the evening.
Eyewitness: The Moth in Milwaukee is Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) at Turner Hall, located at 1040 N. 4th Street. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at The Pabst Box Office or www.etix.com

Dan Kennedy

John McGivern
Although John McGivern is best known for his Emmy award winning work on PBS, his one-man shows share stories of being the third born of six kids in a working-class Irish Catholic family in the Midwest. His dynamic storytelling is based on family and a universal human experience.
Abbas Mousa
Abbas Mousa emigrated to the U.S. in 2009 from Iraq through the Special Immigrant program for Iraqi translators and was granted U.S. citizenship. Mousa recently received his masters degree from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and proudly serves as a Sergeant in the WI Army National Guard. He is currently searching for his dream job while living in peace in America and enjoying the freedom that this country offers him and his family.
Danusia Trevino
Danusia Trevino emigrated to the U.S. from Poland, escaping martial law by one month. She is an award-winning actress who has appeared on stages all over the country.
