Committee approves resolution seeking to build one-stop-shop for transit

Wednesday, June 5, the Common Council’s Finance and Personnel Committee recommended approval of file #240045 – a resolution directing the Department of Administration to explore the possibility of the City entering into one or more agreements with Milwaukee County, Bublr Bikes, and other dockless mobility system operators, relating to an application software program for multimodal transportation in Milwaukee. The file was introduced by Alderperson Jonathan Brostoff and requests a report back to the Common Council in six months.

“Milwaukee has become increasingly friendly for those not reliant on cars. The options are abundant, but for visitors and residents alike navigating all these options can be cumbersome. Simply put, we want to make it easier for all travelers to be able to navigate our great city,” said Alderperson Brostoff. “This file helps us get the ball rolling on creating a one-stop-shop for all of a traveler’s needs from bus routes, to where the nearest Bublr station is, or ride-sharing options in the area. This also opens the door for a variety of public-private partnerships, and in promoting our non-automobile modes of transit, can hopefully be a small piece in combatting reckless driving.”

The file will be before the full Common Council for adoption at its next regularly scheduled meeting at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11. The Common Council meeting will be streamed live on the City Channel (channel 25 on Spectrum Cable and channel 99 on AT&T U-Verse in the City of Milwaukee) and via streaming video on the city website at city.milwaukee.gov/Channel25.
