Wild Space Dance Company’s acclaimed InSite program returns for its fourth season with a FREE, site-specific performance at Havenwoods State Forest on Milwaukee’s Northwest Side. InSite’s mission is to spark choreographic exchange among diverse Milwaukee-based artists while engaging the community in performances that highlight the beauty, resilience, and complexity of the city.

This year’s event, Field Guide, celebrates local ecosystems and urban wilderness through performances created specifically for these outdoor spaces. Guided along accessible wooded trails, audiences encounter dance woven into the landscape as they fall into the rhythms of the natural world. Field Guide features a special collaboration with Ometochtli Mexican Folk Dance and guest choreographers, offering audiences fresh perspectives and choreographic voices. All that’s needed to take part is a sense of curiosity and a good pair of walking shoes.

Engagement Opportunities

  • Pre-show talks with Havenwoods park rangers will illuminate the fascinating history of the site – from penitentiary and farm to internment camp, to missile silo base, and now, a thriving state forest within Milwaukee city limits.
  • Guided meditative walks with collaborating artists will feature mind-body practices, deep listening, and visual exercises designed to heighten awareness of the natural surroundings.

Choreography by Katelyn Altmann, Cuauhtli Ramírez Castro, Zoe Glise, Alejandra Jiménez Marván, Elisabeth Roskopf, and Dan Schuchart.

Music direction and live performance by Lorna Dune and Allen Russell.

This performance is FREE, but RSVP is required – https://insitefieldguide.eventbrite.com
