Bronzeville Week continues with events focused on art, wellness and more

Bronzeville Week, an official City of Milwaukee event hosted by Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs now in its 15th year, continues this week and will include a variety of family-friendly events and vendors that promote health, art, culture, commerce, and a positive atmosphere in the Bronzeville neighborhood for all to enjoy.

Tuesday, August 5 begins with Cool Aid & Canvases – a fun interactive paint session where kids can have their canvases become a work of art. The event takes place at noon at The King Drive Commons Gallery and Studio, 2775 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. The day continues with a virtual event (accessible at Facebook.com/BronzevilleWeek) at 4 p.m. Wardrobe Wellness: Being Sustainably Stylish with Dr. Adanna will show attendees how to build a wardrobe that is both fashionable while being environmentally conscious. The day concludes with a new event, BronzeHeal from 5:30 – 8 p.m. Taking place at Allah Mode, 1942 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr., the event will provide a nourishing healing experience rooted in Bronzeville.

A jam-packed day kicks off at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 6 with the Bronzeville Good Neighbor Block Party. Hosted by Jazales Art Studio, CopyWrite Magazine and Black & White Barbershop, this dynamic, family-friendly event is designated to uplift the community with art, games and free activities. The block party will run until 4 p.m. on Garfield Ave. between Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. and Vel R. Phillips Ave. Wednesday rolls on with 20 Years of Building Bronzeville, a panel discussion with local developers. The discuss will take place from noon – 1 p.m. at Rise and Grind Café, 2737 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr.

From 1 – 4 p.m. is Mommy to Bee: Community Baby Shower taking place at MLK Heritage Health Center, 2555 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. During the afternoon are two chances for a Bronzeville Trolley Ride. The rides will kick off at 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. respectively, and pick up at ThriveOn King, 2153 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. Finally, Wednesday wraps up with Line Dancing with Lady Jai Janay from 4 – 6 p.m. Hosted by Jamila Carney, this will be a chance to learn a few of the popular line dances! This is a beginner level class, appropriate for all levels and ages. Dancing will occur on Garfield Ave. between Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. and Vel R. Phillips Ave.

Thursday, August 7 starts with Bronzeville Business Breakfast from 8:30 – 11 a.m. at America’s Black Holocaust Museum, 401 W. North Ave. Registration is required at historickingdrive.com/breakfast. At 10 a.m., America’s Black Holocaust Museum will also host Free Admission Day through 5 p.m. Just us and Books with educator Danette Justus will take place virtually at noon. At 2 p.m. is Echoes of Bronzeville: Voices of the Past, Voices of the Future. Hosted by Ashley Jordan of Black Arts MKE, this workshop will explore African-American traditional stories of folktales and spoken word. The event takes place at HoneyBee Sage Wellness & Apothecary Café, 1819 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. The day concludes with Bronzeville Hour Presents: Style for Every Story from 3 – 9 p.m. Two events make up an energetic evening of art, fashion and community celebration. Block Print Workshop with the Indigo Project African American Chamber of Commerce takes place from 3 – 5 p .m. at 1920 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. Additionally, Backstage Pass: The Making of a Bronzeville Mural occurs from 5 – 9 p.m. at 1916 Black, 1916 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr.
