Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs invites area residents to join the Halyard Park Neighborhood Association and Halyard Park Association Foundation, Inc. for a historic day celebrating 50 years of Halyard Park.

The celebrations will take place on Saturday, September 19, and begin at 11 a.m. with a Beechie O. Brooks statue unveiling at 2043 N. 6th St. Beechie O. Brooks led the effort to develop Halyard Park in 1976 with a vision to create a suburban-style subdivision for Milwaukee’s Black middle class. The development created over 40 single-family homes across several city blocks.

The day will continue with Hello, Neighbors: A Walk Through Halyard Park immediately following the sculpture unveiling, and conclude with a 50-year anniversary celebration at ThriveOn King, 2153 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr., from 3 – 7 p.m.

“50 years after its development, Halyard Park remains a testament to the vision and determination of Beechie O. Brooks and the residents, past and present, who call the neighborhood home,” Alderwoman Coggs said. “This weekend’s anniversary celebration will be a chance to remember and reflect on the history of how Halyard Park got its start, while also looking ahead at what we want to accomplish for this neighborhood, the 6th District, and the city moving forward.”
