FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – SEPT. 17, 2024 – WEST ALLIS, WIS. – The City of West Allis today announced the passing of former first district alderman Vincent Vitale. Vitale retired in April of this year after 36 years of service to the City.

A longtime resident of West Allis, Vitale served passionately as a member of the City’s Administration, Block Grant, and Economic Development committees. He worked tirelessly and selflessly as a strong advocate for the residents in his district, always willing to listen to them and help them with their concerns. His ability to diplomatically listen to everyone allowed him to provide a unique perspective to the West Allis Common Council.

As a former employee of the West Allis-based Unit Drop Forge, Vitale was a champion for promoting industrial and economic growth throughout the City, including supporting the redevelopment efforts of Summit Place and Six Points Farmers Market, securing financing for Liberty Heights’ wading pool, and supporting park renovations for Roosevelt and Burnham Parks.

He was instrumental in implementing, and a strong advocate for, the City’s exterior property maintenance program. In 2001, his district was the only district to approve the program, but once it was successful, the additional Common Council members implemented it a few years later. The program is still in place today.

Vitale is remembered as a charismatic, community-minded, supportive and engaging leader, in touch with the needs of his constituents. “For decades, Vince graciously dedicated himself to West Allis,” recalls West Allis mayor Dan Devine. “He served with distinction, and through his skills and commitment, made the City a more developed and enriching place to live, work and visit.”

Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at St. Rita’s Church at 2318 S. 61st St. in West Allis with a Christian burial at 12 p.m. and entombment at Mount Olivet Cemetery (3801 W. Morgan Ave.) to follow.
