Supervisors Recommend Continuation of Free Birth Certificate Program
The Free Birth Certificate Program helps individuals get a photo ID for voting purposes and enables youth aged 15-21 to apply for jobs.
MILWAUKEE – The Finance and Audit – Budget Committee voted unanimously to continue Milwaukee County’s free birth certificate program through 2020 today by approving a budget amendment from Chairman Theodore Lipscomb, Sr.
Lipscomb’s amendment to the County Executive’s proposed 2020 budget, co-sponsored by Supervisor Sequanna Taylor, would fund the distribution of 1,000 free birth records.
“By extending this program for another year we remove an impediment to voting and ensure our young people have access to jobs,” said Lipscomb.
The Free Birth Certificate Program helps individuals get a photo ID for voting purposes and enables youth aged 15-21 to apply for jobs. Milwaukee County covers the cost of accessing and printing a birth certificate.
Citizens who wish to take advantage of the Free Birth Certificate Program may contact the Register of Deeds for more information.
The County Board will consider Lipscomb’s amendment to the 2020 Milwaukee County budget on November 12.
