MIAD On the Rise
Its new 6-story building of student apartments is starting to take shape in Historic Third Ward.
The new apartment building under construction for the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design has begun to rise from the ground. General Capital Group is developing the property in conjunction with MIAD as part of a process to return the school’s student housing to the Historic Third Ward. Located at 252 E. Menomonee St., just across from the MIAD building, the apartment building will be known as Two50Two.
When completed in time for the fall of 2014, the building will be home to 310 students. In addition, it will feature nearly 6,000 square-feet of retail space. Blick Art Supply has already contracted to lease 4,000 square-feet of space, a natural companion for the arts-focused college.Two50Two was designed by Engberg Anderson, and financed by Associated Bank. The project general contractor is North Track Construction.
The new development replaces a one-story building that was home to a Snap Fitness, and for a brief moment, an indoor driving range. We covered the demolition in July. We also stopped by the construction of Two50Two when it was a hole in the ground at the end of August. For more background information on the project see our Two50Two building page or read about the project approval.
