Milwaukee, WI (Sept. 19, 2016) – Young children will enjoy stories and related activities Mondays from Oct. 10 –Nov.7, from 10:30-11 a.m., at the Mitchell Park Domes, 524 S. Layton Blvd. The program is free with regular admission.

Each session, held at the Education Center, will be led by Paula Zamiatowski, Conservatory Educator. She will read two to three stories, engage the children and parents in indoor or outdoor activities related to the story, and provide handouts for families to take home as a springboard for explorations.

“Nature and literacy go hand in hand,” Zamiatowski said. “We make the introduction to science and reading fun for the family.”

Oct. 10, “Fun Fall Flowers” highlights the stories, Chrysanthemum by K. Henkes, If you Love Honey by M. Sullivan, and The Beeman by L. Krebs and V. Cis.

Oct. 17, “Colorful Leaves” focuses on the picture books, Bear Sees Colors by K. Wilson, Leaf Hunt by S. Metzger, and There was an Old Woman Who Ate Some Leaves by L. Colandro.

Oct. 24, “Terrific Trees” combines readings of This Tree Counts by A. Formento, Room for Bear by C. Gavin, and Little Tree by L. Long, with an activity that has participants acting out the roles of a tree’s root system, branches and leaves.

Oct. 31, “Above Your Head Harvest” relates the stories It’s Fall by L. Glaser, and Little Apple by B. Weninger and A. Moller, to an observation of the fall sky.

Nov. 7, “Beneath Your Feet” uses Roots by K. Kudlinski as a lead-in to meeting live worms, slugs, millipedes and snails, up-close with magnifiers.
