MILWAUKEE— (July 28, 2014) –   Milwaukee’s spectacular lakefront once again plays host to the prestigious USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships on August 9-10. A record 5,200 athletes are registered for the Saturday and Sunday events, which require a huge local volunteer effort.  VISIT Milwaukee is looking to fill the remaining 300 of 800 shifts of volunteers needed to cover the swimming, biking and running courses.

The Olympic Distance National Championship will be held on Saturday, featuring a 1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike and 10-kilometer run, and Sunday’s event is the Sprint National Championship, involving a sprint distance event of 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike and 5- kilometer run.

Volunteers are needed to assist in areas such as bag check, transition support, bike check-in and out, course support, life guards and many other stations along the combined courses.

“We invite the community to get close to the action and join the fun of volunteering for this national triathlon. All training will be done prior to the event, and volunteers get a cool t-shirt, food and a great story to tell,” according to Paul Upchurch, president & CEO of VISIT Milwaukee.
