Milwaukee Public Library Opens Up Future Library Space to Public on September 2-3

Library and Architects Seek Community Input on New Library on Mitchell Street

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Public Library (MPL) seeks public input on the plans for the replacement of the Forest Home Branch, 1432 W. Forest Home Ave. A new branch library will be constructed inside the historic Hills Building at 906-910 W. Historic Mitchell St. Before the architectural firm HGA Architects and Engineers will begin the design phase of the 1st floor, 16,000 square feet library later this year, MPL wants to hear from members of the community with their ideas for the library’s design, look and feel.  A public open house will be held to collect input and present an update on the library redevelopment project as well as offer an opportunity for the public to visit the new library space.

The space will be open to the public with displays and library representatives on hand to collect input.

A discussion of how public libraries are changing and how these trends are embraced by the Milwaukee Public Library will be presented by HGA Architects and Engineers.  Many treasured artifacts of the Hills Building still remain and how to preserve and restore these items will be an important part of this project.

WHEN:

Wednesday, September 2nd from 4:00-7:00 pm with brief presentations at 4:30 and 6:00 pm

Thursday, September 3rd from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm Open House inside the new library space
