Barrett to hold news conference this morning

By - Aug 19th, 2009 08:39 am

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett has invited reporters to his home this morning to hear his version of the incident that sent him to the hospital with broken teeth, broken bones in his hand and other serious injuries.

Local television and radio oulets are expected to cover Barrett’s news conference live at around 11:30 am.

Barrett is being heralded as a hero for intervening when he observed a woman shouting for help but that opinion is not universal.

The mother of the 20-year-old man who police believe is responsible for the mayor’s beating is blaming the whole thing on Barrett!

She told WTMJ-TV that the mayor provoked her son and if he wasn’t the mayor her son probably wouldn’t have been arrested.

“I was raised to keep to yourself,” said the model mom.

She also described her son as “bipolar, off his medication and borderline psychotic.”

It’s only natural for a mom to rush to a son’s defense especially when the world has labeled him a villain. But by criticizing Barrett’s attempt to keep the peace does not reflect well on her judgment or her values.

I feel for any parent who finds him or herself with a difficult to control child. But putting the blame of your child’s violent behavior on his victims is simply shocking and inexcusable; especially when that child is a grown man.

Lady, consider your parenting license hereby revoked.

Excerpts of the 911 calls reveal details of the harrowing scene.
