WAUWATOSA – As Wauwatosa’s curfew expires, Milwaukee County Supervisor Shawn Rolland (District 6) – a Wauwatosa resident – is calling for Wauwatosa leaders and community advocates to try to find common ground while Wauwatosa’s Police and Fire Commission conducts its review into the conduct of Officer Joseph Mensah. According to Wauwatosa Police and Fire Commission attorney Christopher Smith, an initial hearing relating to Officer Mensah’s conduct may not occur until late October, and the commission may not issue a decision until November or later. This decision could also be appealed to higher courts, further extending the timeline.

“I would love to see city officials, law enforcement and community advocates meeting every day across a table instead of every night in our streets,” said Sup. Rolland. “It’s time to deescalate the situation and accelerate solutions. Unfortunately, we may not get answers on Officer Mensah’s status until November at the earliest, so while we’re waiting, let’s come together and discuss ideas to drive racial equity, improve policing and make our community better.”

On the Milwaukee County Board, Supervisor Rolland represents neighborhoods in Wauwatosa, West Allis and Milwaukee’s westside.
