Sen. Johnson Votes to Support the Laken Riley Act

WASHINGTON – Yesterday, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) voted to pass the Laken Riley Act, which will give local law enforcement and ICE more tools to combat illegal immigrants who commit crime in the United States. The Laken Riley Act requires U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to detain and/or issue a detainer for illegal aliens who commit theft, burglary, larceny, shoplifting offenses, any assault of a law enforcement officer offense, or any crime that results in death or serious bodily injury to another person. Additionally, this legislation gives States standing to seek injunctive relief in federal court against federal agencies for failure to enforce existing immigration law.
