Sal Frelick and Brice Turang Earn Rawlings Gold Glove Awards
Become Second Teammates in Franchise History to Earn Gold Gloves in the Same Season
MILWAUKEE – For the second time in franchise history, the Milwaukee Brewers have a pair of Rawlings Gold Glove Award winners in the same season as Sal Frelick (right field) and Brice Turang (second base) each earned the honor for the first time in their careers. Prior to this season, the only time the team had multiple Gold Glove winners in the same season was 1979 with Cecil Cooper (first base) and Sixto Lezcano (outfield).
“Sal, Brice and Blake are great competitors,” said Brewers manager Pat Murphy. “Any good that comes their way makes me smile. It’s great that they were all recognized by the league for their elite defensive execution. It was certainly a huge difference maker for our club.”
The Brewers have now had eight players (13 times) in franchise history win a Gold Glove Award with Lorenzo Cain (center field) the last to accomplish the feat in 2019.
Turang, who turns 25 on November 21, becomes the first second baseman in franchise history to receive a Gold Glove Award. He bested fellow finalists Ketel Marte (Arizona) and Bryson Stott (Philadelphia). Turang was a finalist for the first time in his career.
Frelick, 24, joins Lezcano, Carlos Gómez (2013) and Cain as the only outfielders in franchise history to win the award. He defeated Jake McCarthy (Arizona) and Mike Yastrzemski (San Francisco). Frelick was also a finalist for the first time in his career.
Perkins, 28, was a finalist in center field along with winner Brenton Doyle (Colorado) and Jacob Young (Washington).
